Should I Host Our Companies Website Myself, Or Let Go Daddy Or Another Hosting Company Do It ?

Our website is hosting 1/2 tb of MP3 files, and probably a total of 1 tb of data to be hosted, including an 100k inventory in SQL.
What other companies besides Go Daddy are really good, and somewhat cheap ?
Also, if we host it, what kind of connection would you recommend ?

  1. Definetly Go Daddy or Lunarpages.com, there a wide variety, they can offer more..

  2. I have only heard good things about GoDaddy company, and even though never needed them for web hosting, can only compliment them on their POP3/outlook powered email services.
Obviously get an external company to host your website, if it’s that much you wont be able to do anything else on your computer or network at your workplace because this’ll place too much of a strain, and you’ll need a high bandwidth that server hosts can provide.
The 100k of SQL is nearly nothing and if that is all you needed to have hosted then you may have been able to do it yourself, but the more data is involved the better it is to place it in a server farm.
Regarding your website hosting requirements, don’t forget that you’ve described a lot of data (MP3 files) and that may account for a significant part of your website hosts, hosting that much data could cost you more than you realise, so a company that does a good deal on the amount of data on your website.
There are hundreds of companies that offer to host, but what decides it is what you can get for your money and any other benefits.

  3. Do you really intend to pass such an expensive and complicated process? You should know your site would be unavailable whenever your PC is turned off, and you’re leaving yourself open to attacks. So I recommend get a reliable company to do that in return for a few dollars.
http://www.goldpuma.com is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($3.99 /month). They accept monthly payments.
But if you’re looking for the best service on the web, as an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
They offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

  4. GoDaddy is not a good host. I’ve heard great things about Dreamhost ( http://www.dreamhost.com/ ) and would strongly recommend them. If you can afford it, however, go with Media Temple http://mediatemple.net/ ). They are by far one of the best out there.
If you’re going to host it yourself, you’ll want a business-class connection with a high uplink (the connection speeds often advertised are downlink). Look for one that provides a SLA so you will have minimum downtime.
