What Can I Say To My Dad To Convince Him Not To Install Parental Controlls & Kol On My New Computer? I Am 15!?

I am going into High School and I am getting my own computer. On this computer, the “family computer”, there are so many blocks for me. I am forced to use “KOL” on AOL. I am 15 not 7! I refuse to go onto AOL, or KOL rather, and I use internet explorer. I am on internet explorer right now, not AOL. There are parental control blocks on Internet Explorer but I ALWAYS have my parents enter their password so I can go on any website. This makes NO SENSE AT ALL! They want all of these controls but they lift it anyway and don’t even monitor the websites that I go on.
Anyway, for my computer that I will be getting how can I convince my parents, mainly my dad, that I need no parental control blocks, just a filtered search so no “junk” comes up? It is so unfair that I am practically a High Schooler and my dad doesn’t trust me on the computer. Its not even like they would expect me to search anything inappropriate, I am a straight A student and just a very responsible person! I don’t even have/want facebook/myspace/twitter accounts!
What can I say to my dad that would get him to not install parental controls on my new computer? And why is he even treating me like a 7 year old. :’(

  1. Wow, i got my 1st computer when I was 10. But tell them how you don’t do anything bad. and like its so stupid…. Tell them what you just wrote….. What parent is easyer,if its your mom then talk to her 1st.
Maybe if you have a younger sister or brother they do this.
    damnn . Good Luck .

  2. Until my child is 18, any computer she uses will have parental controls. End of story.
It isn’t to be unfair or mean to you, it is their responsibility to keep you safe and stay up to date on anything you might do that is inappropriate on the internet. Be thankful they allow you to use it at all.

  3. He’s just trying to protect you from some of the creeps and horrible sites on the Internet. Tell him that he can have all your passwords, and see your pages, and everything! But tell him all your friends have AOL, (non-whiny!). Maybe that will do the trick (: Good luck!

  4. Stay off the sites that your parents deem not appropriate. Do it voluntarily. BE responsible on the computer. Not as hard as you may be led to believe.
You are Daddy’s little girl, no matter how old you get. MY Daddy would tell me to “Get to bed. it is late” (at 9:30) when I was in my twenties, did not argue, I went to bed. Then it was “Turn your light off, at 10:30. I didn’ argue. I turned my light off.
I would always be Daddy’s little girl while he lived. He died the day after my 30th birthday.
